| Felicity Faichney studied theatre at New College of Speech and Drama in London and Theatre Costume Design in Edinburgh. After hatmaking in her professional work for the theatre, she was inspired to study millinery formally. Initially studying at college in Glasgow, where she won prizes for her work, she went on to train with a variety of master milliners including Jane Smith and the Royal Milliner Rose Cory Her millinery work includes designing for several Scottish fashion houses, private commissions, theatre productions and bespoke collections for major events, including The Royal Highland Show and Ladies’ Day at Musselburgh Racecourse. She teaches millinery to adult students, runs millinery workshops in schools throughout Scotland, and lectures on the history of millinery to many audiences including The Antique and Fine Arts Society, The Costume Society of Scotland and The Friends of the Royal Scottish Academy. In 2003 she conceived the idea of HATWALK, a theatrical event to highlight the talents of Scottish milliners, heighten the profile of hatmaking as a vibrant and vigorous art form and raise moneyfor charity. The first HATWALK took place in Greyfriar’s Kirk as part of the National Week of Hats, and was a resounding success. Now a formally registered charity, HATWALK has grown every year, it funds educational workshops throughout each year, and aims to raise even more money to support children’s charities. Felicity recently exhibited at the City Art Centre Edinburgh and the National Hat Museum in Stockport. In the future Felicity is looking forward to further expanding HATWALK's educational programme with even more ambitious HATWALKS. |
